Vision

The goal of my photography is the capture the essence of place… to record a moment in time that is representative of the landscape or location as a whole.

As a nature photographer I am drawn to capture the beauty of protected lands such as National Parks, National Forests, Tribal Parks, State Parks and other private reserves. My travels have taken me from the oceans, to the deserts, to the mountains… through all four seasons, from the spring wildflowers of the Southern California deserts to the harsh winters of the American Rockies.

My desire is to showcase these lands in the hopes of inspiring conservation and habitat preservation for future generations.

Process

The majority of my work is the result of a digital workflow. In recent years I have primarily used Fuji Digital SLR cameras. Several of the works displayed are the result of panoramic stitching of multiple source images of the same scene. The goal of this process is to increase the detail of the image and allow printing the image at a size and resolution that is not attainable by most conventional photographic techniques.

Prior to shooting digitally I used a variety of films: color transparencies (slides), black and white films, and black and white infrared films. All images recorded on film have been scanned at 4000dpi to a digital file for maximum clarity and resolution. The digital files have been restored using state of the art digital techniques to render images that were truly representative of the time and place.

Limited Edition Prints

The images presented on this site are limited to an edition of 50 prints. Each print is hand signed and numbered.

Digital Chromogenic Prints

All images are digital chromogenic prints on glossy Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Prints are made by exposing a sheet of Type-C photographic paper with lasers or LEDs inside of a digital printer instead of light projected by an enlarger. The digital C-print is then processed in traditional darkroom chemistry. The result is an amazing true photographic print that is unsurpassed in sharpness, color accuracy and reproduction of detail while achieving the ultimate in image fidelity.

Fuji Crystal Archive Paper

Fuji Crystal Archive is a resin-based paper that is noted for its unmatched archival quality. It has long been considered the finest color photographic paper available and is the choice of professional photographers and commercial labs.

Recent independent studies by Wilhelm Imaging show that Crystal Archive is the most fade-resistant photographic paper of all that are currently made, outlasting other major brands by almost a three-to-one margin. These independent studies showed that under normal display conditions, Fuji Crystal Archive lasts six or seven decades before any noticeable fade; the nearest competing paper was estimated to only last 15 to 20 years before fading.
